The Mini-lecture Movie Effect on Learning in an Online General Chemistry Class

The initial study (step1) has already pinpointed problem areas in online student learning through direct comparisons of homework set performance with a parallel course taught traditionally by the same instructor. We also find that student homework performance is an excellent indicator in forecasting relative student exam grades and thus is a great predictor of overall learning. This initial study will be repeated for another traditional / online pair of chemistry courses after the distribution of a mini-lecture movie CD to online students. Valid comparisons from both studies will speak to the efficacy of the overall two-step approach on student learning.
