Analysis of Student Learning Outcomes in On-line and On-Campus Science Courses
Fall Semester 2006 an analysis of student learning outcomes will be made comparing on-line and on-campus versions of the non-majors biology course, Topics in Biology. The courses will be identical, including being taught by the same instructor, with the exception of the course delivery system; either on-line using the Blackboard or on-campus in a traditional lecture/laboratory format. Students will receive identical assessment materials including examinations, writing assignments, field-trip and laboratory requirements. Quantitative and qualitative comparisons of student performance and student satisfaction with the course will be made. Data will be analyzed using a variety of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques.
