Using Technology in a Low -Advanced ESL Writing Class

This paper is a pilot study to examine if calibrated peer review (CPR) will help students improve their writing skills. CPR is an Internet-based instructional tool that enables students to learn by writing about different topics. CPR comprises of an integrated set of digital tools that manage the review process, analyze student input, assess that input, and prepare reports for both the instructor and students. CPR will allow each student to explore, visualize, collaborate, write, and learn at her own pace to a mastery level, and take responsibility for her own learning.

Research Questions:

  1. In addition to discussion board, will using CPR help Ss become better writers?
  2. In addition to discussion board, will using CPR help Ss give better feedback?
  3. How much CPR training will Ss need before they can calibrate writing by other Ss and own works?
